SEA LEVLS

  • The sea level has risen 17 cm in the last century.
  • In the last decade, the rate has doubled.
  • In November 2014, the sea level was 5.95 cm.

2 MAIN FACTORS FOR A RISING SEA

  • Melting land ice.
  • Expansion of sea water as it gets warmed.

WARMING OCEAN

  • The ocean has absorbed much of the Earth's heat.
  • The top 700 meters of the ocean is warmed at 0.302 degrees F.
  • If the ocean gets too warm, many animals will die.
  • The top few meters of the ocean store as much heat as the entire atmosphere.
  • As the Earth warms, its the ocean that gets the most energy.

HOW THE OCEAN SOAKS UP CO2.

  • The ocean soaks up CO2.
  • Water animals breath oxygen and let out carbon dioxide.
  • Ocean plants take in carbon dioxide and let out oxygen.
  • The ocean absorbs 25% of fossil fuels that humans create.
  • But the ocean is becoming more acidic, which affects the animals.
