ORGANIZATION

Day by day we get better and better!
The book is organized in chapters. and each chapter is a new part in his quest to achieve the American dream. The chapters start off by going day by day then slowly start passing through a few days to really focus on the important steps in his quest to achieve his goal of the American dream. TONE

Hard work and positive attitude equals success
Adam Shepard has a very hopeful and engaging tone. "Get out and do something. After all, what is the alternative? Scrape by forever, complaining the whole time about how we've been done wrong? i'm telling you, it doesn't have to be that way (Shepard 220)." He expresses how much hard work and determination it took to get him there to achieve the goal. He also has at times tones of frustration. When Adam gets a new roommate BG every other paragraph he is complaining about how annoyed he is of BG.

KEY FEATURES

Don't allow regret to take something from you
The book talks about a few people who are also working on their own lives. "It's a pretty simple concept, actually: one day, your 20 and full of potential, and the next day you're 80, submerged in the world and reminiscence. Are you proud of those last 60 years, or are you looking back with a chip on your shoulder, mad that you could've done a little more (Shepard 215)." Shepherds always talking about don't allow anything to get in your way of your dreams. Anything is possible so don't let regret keep you from that.

HARDWORK

Go out there and do something
Adam Shepard's book is really inspiring to see for people that feel that they cannot reach or achieve the American dream. Yet with just $25, a bag, sleeping bag, and the clothes on his back he more than doubles his goal with acquiring $5300, a working truck and a furnished apartment in under a year.

SUCCESS OR FAILURE

Would've, should've, could've
If Adam Shepard can do it with just $25 a suitcase a sleeping bag and the clothes on his back there's no reason anybody can achieve the American dream.

TALK? ACTION?

Which is better?
Adam tells us clearly in his book that action is the way to go. He strongly once to influence attitudes of of people that didn't believe it could be done. Instead of talking you take action and goes on his journey of Scratch Beginnings. His first mission is to change attitudes among otherwise self actualized Americans. He strongly believes that he can achieve the first part of his mission in which she does succeed.
