SCOTTSBORO TRIALS FACTS

  • Nine black boys were accused of rape
  • They were riding a train and a fight broke out between white and blacks
  • The whites were kicked off the train
  • The blacks were accused of assault
  • Then two white women said they got raped by the blacks

The Scottsboro trials were a series of trials in Scottsboro USA over the alleged rape and assault of two white women by nine black men.

Victoria Price is 21 when this happened and Ruby Bates was 17

Haywood Patterson and Clarence Norris died December 1933 from being sentenced to death.

Olen Montgomery,18; Andy Wright,18; Eugene Williams,13; Wille Roberson, 17; and Ozie Powell, 16 died on April 9th-15th 1931

May 7th 1933
Thousands marched to protest the trials.

Clarence Norris was sentenced to life in jail.

Charlie Williams was sentenced to 105 years in jail.
