Warm Up: Last time, we solved a puzzle using scientific processes. What are some other "puzzles" of the world that science has helped us solve in history?

Independent Variable (I.V.)

• Part of the experiment you control
• X-Axis on graphs

Dependent Variable (D.V.)

• Part of the experiment you measure
• Y- Axis on graphs

Control Group

• the group that you compare your experiment to. Does not have the I.V.

Constants

• Parts of an experiment that remain the same for both the control and experimental groups

Data

• information gathered during an experiment
• QUALITATIVE: observations not related to numbers
• QUANTITATIVE: observations that ARE related to numbers
