PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MATTER

Matter is anything in the world that takes up space and weighs something. I chose this picture because it weighs something, it matters and it takes up a lot of space in our fridge.

ELEMENT

I put that picture because every time I think of an element I think of gold and that helps me remember other elements. An element has one atom and can’t be by itself. There are 120 elements in the periodic table.

ATOM

I put that picture of magnet spheres put together because atoms remind me of magnet balls put together. They are connected like how magnets are connected. An atom is the smallest amount of a chemical element. An atom is in a element.

PERIODIC TABLE

I put that picture of a book shelf because book shelf’s organize books the way the periodic table organizes elements. Shelf’s help me remember the periodic table. The periodic table is a table that organizes elements by their number. It has 118 elements in it.

MOLECULE

I put that picture of the toys Kinex because it connects a bunch of stuff like a molecule is a bunch of atoms connected. When I see a picture of a molecule it reminds me of Kinex. A molecule is a bunch of atoms connected together. They can be the same atom or different ones.

COMPOUND

I put this picture of marbles because the marbles are different and sort of look like atoms. Compounds go together and are different atoms and so are marbles. A compound is formed when two or more different atoms are put together.

SUBSCRIPTS

I put that picture because subscripts are like equations and the small numbers are like exponents. When I learned about subscripts it reminded me of algebra. A subscript tells you how many atoms of each element for that molecule.

COEFFICIENTS

I chose this picture because we are learning about coefficients in math and they remind me of equations and math. Coefficients multiply the number of molecules you are making.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

I put this picture because the kids are playing outside in the sun and having a picnic so they are getting filled up by the sun and food. When photosynthesis happens the plants get there food from their sun. Photosynthesis is the process where plants make their own food with carbon dioxide and water which makes glucose.

CELLULAR RESPIRATION

I put that picture because the kids eating and in cellular respiration the food makes ATP. Cellular respiration takes in food and than uses it to make ATP which gives cells energy.

PRODUCTS

I put that because when I think of products I think of the math product in multiplication.
Products are the outcome of a chemical reaction when substances are put together.

REACTANTS

I put that picture because when I hear reactants I think of equations and how the reactants are like the stuff you add in math. Reactants are the substances that were put together to get the chemical reaction.

GLUCOSE

I put that picture because when I think of glucose I think about sugar. Glucose is a cell the runs through our blood. In photosynthesis carbon dioxide and water put together makes glucose.

CARBON DIOXIDE

I put that picture because your heart is a big part of your body and you exhale carbon dioxide which helps you breath and that helps our heart. Carbon dioxide is what we exhale and what trees inhale.

OXYGEN

I put that picture of someone studying because stuffing helps us succeed like oxygen helps us live. Oxygen is what we breath. Trees make oxygen.
