  • Risk...The beaker is being heated up so if the glass thermometer touches the bottom of he beaker it will break and the poison inside the thermometer isn’t good for us so it would be a risk
  • Management...instead of putting the thermometer all the way at the bottom you could hold it in half way.

EQUIPMENT

  • Bunsen Burner
  • Heat proof mat
  • Retort stand
  • Clamp
  • Thermometer
  • Stirring Rod
  • Beaker
  • Salt (50g)
  • Water (75ml)
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Measuring Cylinder
  • Rubber glove
  • String
  • Texta

METHOD

PART 1: BUNSEN BURNER SETUP

  • Put on all safety gear goggles, lab coat etc.
  • Take your Bunsen burner, retort stand, clamp, heat proof mat, at set up safely.

PART 2:

  • Take all your equipment and carefully set up.
  • Take your pipe cleaner and form into any shape of your liking
  • Take your measuring cylinder and fill up to 50ml of water and pour into your beaker

PART 3:

  • Un-tighten your clamp and carefully place your beaker inside. Then re-tighten your clamp.
  • Make sure your Bunsen burner has no flame and the turn on your gas tap.

PART 4;

  • (Make sure goggles are on) take your matches and place above the Bunsen burner. Quickly blow out excess flame (carefully away from people)
  • Wait for water to boil.
  • Every once in a while take your thermometer and check in on your water (stop at 50)

PART 5:

  • Once water temperature hit 50 degrees turn off the gas tap and carefully un-tighten the clamp and remove the beaker (be carful because it will be hot)
