ANIMALS CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT (MAKING HOMES)

  • Animals change the environment by making homes and getting food.
  • Beavers build dams with trees. The dams block the flowing water, which backs up ponds and wetlands.
  • Humans change the environment also.They change it by hunting,building homes, and throwing trash on the ground.

ANIMALS CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT (CHANGING SOIL)

  • When plants and animals die their body breaks down or decays in the soil.
  • Living things called bacteria eat the soil .
  • Next earthworms and insects eat the bacteria .
  • When bacteria or insects die they decay in the soil too.

ANIMALS CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT (FEEDING)

  • Plants roots help hold bits of soil together.
  • Elephants help plants even though they kill the plant they disperse the seed.
  • Caterpillars can eat huge amounts of leaves which can kill trees and other plants.

ANIMALS CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT (INVASIVE ANIMALS)

  • Invasive plants or animals can harm the environment .
  • Nutria is one of the most invasive plant it eats plants that grow in wetlands .
  • Burmese Pythons are one of the most harmful animals in florida because it's killing our alligators.
  • Like most invasive species they have no natural predator.

  • There are about 26% of all fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals in South Florida are exotic.
  • Many of invasive animals come from the everglades in Florida.
  • Most of invasive animals are from pets being brought over or left behind.

ANIMALS CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT (FEEDING)

  • Elephants affect the environment by tearing tree bark.
  • Any animal can change the environment even small caterpillars.
  • Elephants also help by making water holes.They make water holes and other animals drink from it.
