Capillary Action

Water is attracted to the walls of the tube, and water molecules are attracted to one another.

Adhesion

Water molecules can also form hydrogen bonds with other substances.

Cohesion

Attraction between molecules of the same substance.

Surface tension

It allows the molecules on top of the water to bond together to hold the paper clip up.

Breaking Surface Tension

When the water molecules can no longer hold up the paper clip.
