ENERGY CONVERSIONS-FROM THE SUN TO A COMPUTER

The sun brings all the energy needed to make energy on Earth.

It starts from nuclear fusion happening through making hydrogen into helium. This process is a process made from energy known as nuclear potential energy. The atoms in the sun have the potential to create lots of energy.

That potential energy can create lots of different kinetic energies.

The energy it brings that can travel to Earth is radiant kinetic energy. Once the energy comes to the Earth, it converts into thermal (heat) energy.

There are many things that the Sun's energy supports. One of the most prominent is how it provides heat and light to plants.

The light creates a chemical reaction with something in the plants because the plants have chemical potential energy.

This process is known as photosynthesis.

When the plants die they form layers at the bottom of swamps and after many, many years the plants get compressed by the pressure of the ground above.

This compression created coal out of the plants. The miners use chemical potential energy from their food and turn it into motion energy to mine this coal.

The coal is then loaded into vehicles which use chemical energy from the gas for the vehicles to run.

Once they arrive at the coal plant, they are burned from their chemical potential energy and this heats water, creating steam.

This steam is used to turn a turbine generator. So, the motion energy from the steam moves the turbine and this creates electric energy.

It happens from the turbine being connected to a motor and a magnet that work to turn into electric energy.

The electric energy is then put through wires that run along power lines in which they split up and go to the individual houses.

Once they get to the houses, the electricity is transferred to the computer's charging cord and that electricity goes to the computer.

Once the computer is charged, that electric energy can be turned into a lot of things.

DIFFERENT THINGS IT TURNS INTO

  • Heat energy from computer being used a lot
  • Sound energy from something like a video
  • Radiant energy from the screen
  • A very useful tool!

And that's how a computer gets it's energy!
