DECAFFEINATION

MADE BY YALE, LUKE, KRISH

THE REAL WORLD PROBLEM

OF DRINKING NORMAL COFFEE

PROBLEMS BY CAFFEINE

  • Boosted Blood pressure
  • Anxiety
  • Insomia
  • Digestive issues
  • Muscle breakdown

OUR AIM AND HYPOTHESIS OF OUR EXPERIMENT

  • Effect
  • Colour will darken
  • The process breaks down the internal structure
  • 95%~

MATERIALS

  • • Water 500ml • Coffee beans 3 table spoons • Paper towel • Activated charcoal 3 table spoons • iPads (for colour scale) • Beaker
  • Spoon

METHOD

  • Put 3 tablespoons of coffee beans into the beaker 2. Pour 500ml of water into the beaker 3. Add 2 tablespoons of activated charcoal in the beaker 4. Collect the coffee beans floating in the water with a spoon 5. Put the beans on a paper towel 6. Dry it with a paper towel 7. Grind the beans 8. Place the grinded beans on a safe surface. 13. Measure the caffeine with a colour scale and see what coffee has a darker colour. (Darker colour means decaffeinated)

Untitled Slide

WHAT HAPPENED

  • We soaked the beans in water for 10mins.
  • Put activated charcoal
  • Bubbles formed
  • Dried the beans
  • It was darker than the normal coffee beans

COMPARISON WITH NORMAL COFFEE

OUR GRAPH

THE CONCLUSION

CONCLUSION OF OUR EXPERIMENt

  • Experiment was successful
  • The decaffeinated coffee beans ended up darker
  • Our hypothesis was correct.
  • Decaffeination was sucessful
  • This is a effective technique for D.I.Y decaffeination.
