According to dictionary.com a gas is a substance possessing perfect molecular mobility and the property of indefinite expansion, as opposed to a solid or liquid.

Liquid
Example: Water from a lake

Description
According to dictionary.com a liquid is a group of composed of molecules that move freely among themselves but do not tend to separate like those of gases; neither gaseous nor solid.

Solid
Example: A tree in the woods

Description
According to thefreedictionary.com a solid is a thing of definite shape and volume; not liquid or gaseous.
