SCIENCE

MATTER

Anything that takes up space and has mass. All matter is made of atoms.

I chose this picture because it reminds me of matter and it takes up space.

ATOM

The smallest unit of a chemical element.

I chose this picture because its what a atom looks like and it’s cool.

ELEMENT

Each element is made of only one kind of atom. There are about 120 elements.

PERIODIC TABLE

A list of all of chemical elements that exist in the universe organizes elements according to there properties of their atoms.

I chose this picture because its a picture of the periodic table. And it has cool colors.

MOLECULE

Two or more atoms joined together. May by same element or different.

I chose this picture because It has atoms connected witch is what a molecule is.

COMPOUND

Formed when two or more DIFFERENT atoms are joined together. Note: All compounds are also molecules but not all molecules are compounds.

SUBSCRIPTS

They tell you how many atoms of each element for that molecule.

COEFFICIENT

Multiply the number of molecules you are making.
Example: in 3NaCl the coefficient is 3 and you multiply the number of molecules to that number.
