Types of Schizophrenia

  • Catatonic
  • Paranoid
  • Disorganized
  • Residual

symptoms of Catatonic Schizophrenia

  • Motor Disturbances
  • Rigidity
  • Decreased sensitivity to painful stimuli
  • Stupor
  • Agitation

symptoms of Paranoid schizophrenia

  • Delusional thoughts of persecution
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Violence

Symptoms of Disorganized schizophrenia

  • Incoherence
  • Regressive Behavior
  • Social Withdrawal
  • Flat Affect 
  • Hallucinations

symptoms of residual schizophrenia

  • Most prominent symptoms have abated
  • Some features, like hallucinations and flat affect remain 
  • None of the characteristics are found in all other types


  • There are no definite ways of diagnosis
  • Factors suggest diagnosis, but don't confirm it
  • Psychiatrists will interview and ask about:
  • 1. Developmental, genetic and family history
  • 2. Course of illness and duration of symptoms
