TAKE A TOUR AROUND THE CROWN JEWEL OF THE SOL SYSTEM
Welcome to Saturn, the sixth planet of the Sol system.
It on average 9.54 AU from Sol and at its closest 8 AU from Earth.
The planetary diameter is 120,536 km making it around 9.5x the size of Earth.
It is named after the Roman name of the Titan of time and agriculture.
It's temperature ranges from -139 degrees Celsius on the surface to 11,700 degrees Celsius in the interior.
Saturn is comprised of 96% hydrogen and 3% helium with some trace elements. It's mostly gas but has a rocky core surround by a layer composed of hydrogen and helium compressed into a liquid metallic state.
Saturn has 150 moons, but only a third have formal names. It's major moons are Rhea, Dione, Titan, Mimas, Tethys, Iapetus, and Enceladus.
Saturn's moons have the unique duty of shaping their planet's rings and Enceladus' case, supplying them with more material from the ejecta of its cryovolcanoes.
Saturn has been visited by Pioneer 11, the voyagers, and the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft with each visit giving a clearer picture of its surface, rings, and moons.
