Avox

  • Avox is a traitor. The capital who commited a crime and had their tongue cut off by the capitol as a punishment.

Bow

  • This is the weapon Katniss uses. Also, she is good with it.

Capitol

  • The central government system of the nation of Panem. The Capitol is also called the colloquial.

District 12

  • District 12 is the main character's district. It also won the Hunger Game.

Effie Trinket

  • Effie Trinket is the main character's overseer. She helps Katniss a lot.

Forcefield

  • Forcefield is an invisible barrier constructed to contain an area, such as the edging of the arena.

Gale Hawthorne

  • Katniss' good friend in District 12. He is also in love with Katniss

Haymitch

  • Haymitch is Katniss and Peeta's mentor. He is also an alcoholic.

Interview

  • During preparations for the games, tributes are required to participate in public interviews. People also loved Katniss's interview more than the rest of the tributes.

Jabberjay

  • Birds created by the Capitol during a time of rebellion in order to spy upon districts. Jabberjays were created to record and repeat conversations and alert the Capitol of trecherous disscustions.

Katniss

  • Katniss is the main character. She is also the first volunteer as tribute.

Lunchroom

  • The lunch room is where tributes waited with their mentors to go into the arena. That is where they also make their last preperations before the game.

Mockingjay

  • Mockingjay is a species of bird which resulted from cross-breeding. It is also the main characters symbol.

Night Lock Berries

  • Katniss and Peeta threaten to take these berries so they both die and no one would win. So they were stopped by the head game maker and were both crowned victories.

Octavia

  • She is part of Katniss' prep team. She is mentioned in all three books and becomes found of Katniss.

Peeta Mellark

  • He is a male tribute for District 12 and the local baker's son. He claims to have been in love with Katniss since they were 5 years old.

Quiver

  • A bag Katniss keeps her arrow in. This is strapped to her back.

Reaping

  • Reaping is the name of the annual district ceremonies where two tributes, a male and female are selected by a lottery to enter the Hunger Games. At the reaping Katniss volunteered for her sister's spot.

Suzanne Collins

  • Author of The Hunger Games trilogies. She got an award for Kids' Choice Award For Favorite Book.

Tributes

  • Those children selected to fight in the Hunger Games. One boy and one girl from each 12 districts are chosen each year.

Universe

  • Outside of Panem, the state of the world and universe at large is unknown in the Hunger Games. The affairs of Panem comprise the entire focus of the story.

Victor's Village

  • A neighborhood located in each district that exists to house Hunger Games victors only. In District 12 Haymitch is the only victor living there.

Weapons

  • The tributes used weapons in the Game like bows, knives, poison, and spears to attack one another. Katniss favorite weapon is the bow.

foXface

  • Girl tribute from District 5 ate Peeta's poison berries and died. She is in the Her name is not FoxFace, Katniss gave her that nickname because she looked like a fox.

Youth

  • You were not entered in the lottery until you were a youth. There were a lot of youth in a District.

Zeitgeist

  • The Hunger Games has nudged its way into becoming a mainstay in the cultural climate of American literature.
