What factors affect temperature here?

  • It is close to the equator making it warmer than most places
  • High and low pressure belts
  • Recieves a lot of insolation making it sunnier

How is insolation unique here?

  • Since Greece is near the equator insolation is high
  • This means Santorini gets a lot of sunlight

Describe unique features of the water cycle in this location..

  • Due to it being on the ocean, a lot of evaporation takes place

Greece does not get dew very often because the daytime/nighttime temperatures do not vary very much. The average dew point is 1 degree celsius and the temperature does not get low enough.

Fog is not common in Greece because the dew point is not often reached.

November to March is Santorini's rainy and cold season. That is when the main time Santorini experiences cloud cover. They probably get middle clouds.

Santorini's most common rainfall types are light rain, thundersorms and moderate rain. Thunderstorms occur mostly in the warm season and light rain in the cold season.

During the warm season they experience many high pressure systems keeping the skies clear and during the cold seasons they have low pressure meaning they have cloud coverage.

Santorini's strongest winds are southeast trade winds. Santorini does not get chinook winds because it is very flat.

Because Santorini gets few severe storms, othing has been done to protect against them. Houses flood easily because of crevices in doors and walls.

Because Santorini is near the equator is is warm. It is on the coast so temperatures stay mild. Ocean currents bring cloud in mostly in winter. It is moderatly windy year round. The are no mountain barriers and is flat it has a low altitude. High pressure belts keep the skies clear in summer.
