Questions for Reflection
How do the Salesian Sisters' mission incorporate the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit?
What are the reasons their mission is still alive today?

THE SALESIAN SISTERS

  • Founded by Saint Maria Mazzarello in 1872
  • On October 8th, 1874, the Salesian Sisters were able to open their first house in Borgo Santa Martino
  • The work was not limited to a schoolroom
  • John Bosco was able to give the sisters the first printed versions of their Constitutions on the feast of the Immaculate Conception
  • Mazzarello died on May 14th, 1881. In her stead were left 26 houses and 166 sisters

The characteristics of the Salesian Sisters' charism are eucharist and confession, devotion to Mary, fidelity to the Pope, Pastoral charity, joy, optimism, and community

The Salesian Sisters are an example of faith because they help young people who are in difficult circumstances

The ministry of the Salesian Sisters created the Big Brother/Big Sister program, helping less fortunate children have a good role model, and lead more holy and pious lives
