St. Michael the Archangel

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

  • Lived in Israel
  • He is an angel (so he does not have a birth or death date)

FAITH AND JOURNEY

  • Raised and stayed Catholic throughout his life
  • He defeated Satan twice
  • Guards over Israel

SAINTHOOD

  • Feast Day is September 29th
  • Patron saint of Mariners, police, and sickness.

ST. JOAN OF ARC

EARLY LIFE

  • Born around 1412
  • Lived in medieval France
  • Her father, Jacques d’Arc, was a tenant farmer
  • Grew up during the time of the war in France.

FAITH

  • Her mother taught her about the Catholic Church and its teachings when she was a young girl.
  • Always a strong believer in God.

JOAN'S MISSION

  • At age 13, Joan heard voices in her head who she said was God calling her to save France.
  • At the age of 16 she took a vow of chastity and convicted a local court that she should not be forced to marry the man her father picked out.
  • In March of 1429, she convinced Charles of Valois to give her an army to lead to Orléans.
  • Joan led the French to victory

DOWNFALL OF JOAN

  • Joan was ordered to defend the town, Compiégne, from the Burgundians
  • She was thrown from her horse and taken captive by the Burgundians
  • Joan was put in a trial, where she was accused for witchcraft, heresy, dressing like a man, and much more.
  • At the age of 19, Joan was taken to the old market place of Rouen and burned at the stake on May 30th

SAINTHOOD

  • Canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920
  • Patron saint of France, martyrs, captives, militants, people ridiculed for their piety, prisoners, soldiers, Anglophobes, Women Appointed for Voluntary Emergency Services and the Woman's Army Corps.
  • Joan of Arc's feast day is May 30th.

  • Birth-1295
  • Death-1327
  • born in the city of Montpellier
  • father was governor of the city
  • parents died when he was 20
  • he inherited the job of governor of the city
  • he gave his fortune to the poor and made his uncle governor
  • died in prison after suspected of being a spy in 1327

FAITH

  • Born and raised Catholic
  • born with a birthmark of a cross on his chest
  • his cross shaped birthmark grew as he grew

BECOMING A SAINT

  • he cared for plague victims
  • he eventually got the plague
  • he ran to the desert to die
  • everyday a dog brought him food and licked his wounds
  • a spring came up with fresh water
  • he healed

SAINTHOOD

  • Canonized in 1427
  • His feast day is August 16th
  • Patron Saint of dogs
