  • Since 1861 Japan had been growing consistently
  • Developed a Modern Industry and Army
  • Japanese economy was at its peak
  • Japan was also in an expansion process
  • Russian presence in Manchuria was a threat

Causes for the War

  • Japan sought to establish its preeminence
  • Russian Empire dismiss Japanese diplomatic intentions
  • Nicholas II stated that he was not going to let his positions
  • Japan wanted to prove its power against an European Power
  • Nicholas II wanted to expand Russian Empire in the Far East

The 1904-5 War

  • Japan attacked first, Port Arthur was easily seized
  • Russian Presence was almost terminated in a few days
  • Nicholas II commanded the counter attack
  • Imperial Navy and Infantry were deployed in August of 1904

  • Militarized Nation
  • Disciplined and Organized,
  • Trained in Modern Warfare Tachtics
  • Moved by a Nationalist feeling
