  • Czar- Caesar in Russian
  • It can be spelled Tsar, Tzar, Csar or Czar

PETER I

  • Life(1672-1725)
  • Reign(1682-1725)
  • Known to have a boisterous personality
  • Ruled jointly with half-brother until 1696
  • Gave himself the title "peter the great"

PETER I : ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Built St. Petersburg
  • Established Russia's navy
  • He centralized the government

FEODOR I

  • Life(1557-1598)
  • Reign(1584-1598)
  • Was amused by the sound of church bells
  • Parents were Ivan the terrible and his first wife, Anastasia
  • Married Irina Godunov and they produced no children

FEODOR I: ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Took no part in government
  • Left all duties to his brother in law, Boris Godunov

IGOR OF KIEV

  • Known as greedy, rapacious, and unsuccessful

IGOR'S SORT OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Led expeditions to Transcaucasia that ended badly
  • Led two expeditions to Byzantine which ended in "Greek fire"

IVAN THE TERRIBLE

  • Life(1530-1584)
  • Reign(1533-1584)
  • Took reign at 3, after his father's death
  • Was maltreated as a young boy

IVAN'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Order many churches built but most famously, St. Peter's bascilia
  • Conquered Kazan and astrakhan(known as the best part of his reign)

NICHOLAS II

  • Life(1868-1917)
  • Reign(1894-1917)
  • Last czar of Russia

NICHOLAS' ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Had few
  • Held responsible for "Bloody Sunday"
  • Also for the poor army efforts during WWI

NICHOLAS' DEATH

  • On July 17, 1918, Nicholas and his family were murdered
  • There has also been speculations that his daughter, Anastasia survived
