EATING PATTERNS

  • Russians like to eat at home
  • They rarely buy prepared food at their stores
  • Eat three times a day just like americans
  • Russians prefer to eat potatoes at their meals

3 MEALS

  • Zavtrak is the first meal
  • Obed is the second
  • And uzhin is the final meal

FIRST COURSE

  • Eat around 7-8 am
  • Kasha (porridge with different grains)
  • Butterbrot (bread with either butter or ham)
  • Boiled or fried eggs
  • Trorog (cottage cheese)

  • Main meal
  • Around 2pm
  • Hot soup
  • NépBoe (meat and potato soup)
  • Pasta and chololates

THIRD MEAL

  • With whole family
  • 7-8 pm when everyone home from work and school
  • Eat potatoes with meat or fish
  • Afterwards drink tea with jam or sugar
  • Common to drink vodka with meals

RUSSIAN UTENSILS USED

  • Turner- necessity for thier kitchens
  • Spice mill- they use lots of spices
  • Large stock pot- primarly used for soups
  • Pech stove- also used for heating the house
  • Latki- typical frying pan

METHODS OF FOOD PREPERATIONS

  • Russians prefer to deep fry their food
  • They love soup to so make that often
  • Use old fashion stoves for soup to give it unique flavor

RUSSIAN DIET

  • Lots of oils in food
  • Rarely eat red meats and rice
  • Alcohol used very often
  • Mostly eat potatoes and fish
  • Hate to eat out at fast food

U.S DIET

  • Supposed to eat vegetables and grains
  • Americans love fast food
  • Eat more fatty foods then russians
  • Eat about same amount of vegetables
  • Alcohol occasionally

  • Lots of sweets at celebrations often
  • Red eggs for easter
  • Red eggs resemble resurrection of jesus
