- Hometown: Alton, Kansas
- Educational background: Attended high school in Iowa
- Studied Chemistry for a year in Iowa State University
- Always worked on the farm with his parents

oUT OF THE FARM
- Russell realized the farm life was not for him
- He moved to Winnipeg, Minnesota
- He worked for the Minnesota Candy Company
- Resigned when his company balked some questionable merchandise.
- 1 year in Chicago in a candy manufacture.

- He became an entrepreneur because he made a partnership with Nelson
- They decided to start with selling eskimo pies.
- Then Russell decided to make chocolate in a different way
- He started in his kitchen with his wife Clara
- Then opened a Factory of his own
