A CELL AS A CITY

CYTOSKELETON

PROVIDES SHAPE AND STRUCTURE
A cytoskeleton is similar to a freeway because a cytoskeleton has interconnected networks that allow materials to move. This is similar to a freeway because freeways provide networks that allow people to move.

NUCLEUS

STOREHOUSE FOR MOST OF A CELLS DNA
A nucleus is similar to a bank because a nucleus stores DNA for the cell, and a bank stores money for their clients.

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM

PRODUCES, PROCESS, AND DISTRIBUTES PROTEINS
Factories are similar to an endoplasmic reticulum because factories will distribute items and make them. Similarly, an endoplasmic reticulum will produce, process, and distribute proteins.

RIBOSOMES

LINKS AMINO ACIDS TO FORM PROTEINS
Ribosomes can be compared to construction workers because ribosomes link amino acids to form proteins, while construction workers combine pieces together to produce a larger item.

GOLGI APPARATUS

PROCESS, SORT, AND DELIVER PROTEINS
Factories are related to Golgi apparatuses because factories sort, make, and deliver materials, in the same way Golgi apparatuses process, sort, and deliver proteins.

VESICLES

TRANSPORTS MATERIALS WITHIN THE CYTOPLASM
Vesicles are compared to an ups deliverer because vesicles transports materials, in the same way ups deliverers transport letters and packages to areas.

MITOCHONDRIA

SUPPLIES ENERGY TO THE CELL
Mitochondrion are similar to power plants because mitochondria supply energy to the cell, similar to the way power plants provide energy to a city.

VACUOLE

STORES MATERIALS FOR THE CELL
Storage containers provide extra storage for people that need more room. This is similar to how vacuoles store materials like water, food, or enzymes for the cell.

LYOSOMES

DEFEND CELLS AND BREAK DOWN DAMAGED CELL PARTS
Police officers defend a city and protect it from invaders. This is similar to the way lysosomes defend a cell.

CENTRIOLES

AIDS IN MITOSIS
Centrioles are compared to railroad tracks because a railroad track will spilt into two separate tracks. This is similar to the way centrioles split cells in mitosis.

CELL WALL

PROVIDES PROTECTION, SUPPORT, AND SHAPE FOR CELLS
A jail cell is similar to a cell wall because they both define the shape of a region, they both also provide protection for the inside and outside.

CHLOROPLASTS

CONVERT SOLAR ENERGY INTO CHEMICAL ENERGY
Solar panels are similar to chloroplasts because solar panels use the sun's rays to provide electricity for a building. While, chloroplast converts the same solar energy into chemical energy for a plant
