ROSARIO CASTELLANOS

Rosario Castellanos was a famous Mexican poet and outhor. She was one of Mexico's most important literary voices in the last century even though she died young at the age of 49. This picture here shows just one of Rosario's 5 famous quotes, "We have to laugh. Because laughter, we already know, is the first evidence of freedom." With her knowledge and wisdom, she became a person who almost everyone in Mexico listened to at her time which was the generation of the 1950's.

Mrs. Castellanos also has a school opened up in Chicago, Illinois. The school is only opened to kids in 3rd grade through 8th grade. It is 99% Hispanic and 1% African American. The school is low on income and not ranked very high on academics. So if you're in the city one day, you should try to go check it out.

Not only does Rosario write poetry, she uses her talents to write novels and short stories too. She became inspired to write by Saint Teresa of Ávila and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz which were both religious Mexican writers. She has written 22 books but this one right here is her most famous one " The Book of Lamentations".

So now you can see who Rosario Castellanos was and what she has done to make an impact to people. But here are also some fun facts about her. She died by getting electrocuted at her home, became Mexico's ambassador to Israel in 1971, and studied philosophy and literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico
