PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Room 110

Autistic Life Skills Support Classroom

assumptions, PERSPECTIVES,feelings, going into placement

Scared, uncomfortable, uneasy, nervous
I was very sad and nervous going into this placement. That was my first full inclusion placement and I did not know what to except and if I would do things right.

feelings after placement

 comfortable, more knowledge
I feel I am more comfortable working with this type of students now. I feel more better about it than I did going into the placement. I was scared and did not know what to excepted and what to do. But as the placement went on I got to know the students and how they work. During the last week I was so comfortable and I knew everything about the students and I was having so much fun I did not want to leave.

overall experience

There was never a dull moment in room 110.
In my classroom we were always moving around and working with the students on tasks. If a student did not want to do the task he would throw it across the room, to get out of the task. But little did he know it did not work. We were constantly telling the students to go sit and stay seated while trying to work with the students. We were always doing something there was no time for sitting.

teachers and para's

All of them were friendly, patient, fun, and young.
All of the para's in my room were very young. It was fun working with people that were around my age. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and when I had a question they were willing to help. The para's were very patient with the students. They never yelled at them. They were very calm and it was nice being around calm people in such a hectic room.

students

My students were loud, energetic, and nonverbal
My classroom was very loud. Because all of my students were nonverbal so they made noises to try and talk. One students way of communication was saying eaaaaaaaa, and heyyyyyy heyyyy. That was I'm hungry and hi, and he did that everyday all day. My students were every energetic. My one would bounce in his seat all day long, and they loved walks.

lesson learned

Don't push the students.
When the students are ready to do a task they will and complete it. My one boy was a perfect example of this. When he was not ready to do a task he would throw it across the room. But when he was ready and with guidance he would complete the task perfectly. Also if you don't get to everything don't worry it is okay. Because you are working at the students pace.
