- Rhea was a mortal princess who married Mars, the Roman God of War
- had twins named Romulus & Remus
- other gods were jealous of Mars and Rhea and plotted to kill Romulus and Remus
LIFE OF ROMULUS & REMUS
- were sent down a river to be protected from the gods who wanted to kill them
- raised by a female wolf who raised them as her cubs
- wolf couldn't keep them so she put the twins where a shepherd would find them
- the shepherd and his wife continued to raise Romulus & Remus

- as they grew into manhood, they built a city and ruled it as kings
- had a contest to see who was going to be the top king
- when it seemed Remus would win, Romulus killed Remus with a rock
- Romulus became first king of Rome
