SCENE 1
Friar Lawrence's plan is to have Juliet take a potion to make her appear dead for 42 hours, then when she wakes in the tomb, the Friar and Romeo will be there. Then Romeo will take her to Mantua.

SCENE 2
Juliet tells her father, Lord Capulet, that she will marry Paris. Her father is very happy and moves the wedding to tomorrow.

SCENE 3
Before Juliet takes the potion, she worries about a few things. First, that it won't work. Next, that it is poison and the Frair wants her dead. Lastly, that she will wake up alone in the tomb surrounded by her dead ancestors. In the end she takes the potion for Romeo.

SCENE 4
In the Capulets house, they are preparing for the wedding. It is very crazy and chaotic inside their house.

SCENE 5
The Nurse finds Juliet in her room the next morning and thinks she is dead. The family is very sad, and they change the wedding into a funeral. So far the Friar's plan is working out.

DRAMATIC IRONY
The dramatic irony in Act IV, was when we knew that Juliet was alive, but her family thought she was dead.

FORESHADOWING
The Friar's plan isn't very good and a lot of things could happen that would mess it up, so we can foreshadow that his plan will not work.
