Rome

  • Julius Caesar was one of ancient Rome’s great generals and statesmen.
  • Augustus meaning “the revered”, was the name the Roman Senate gave to Julius Caesar’s nephew; Octavian the became the first emperor of Rome in 27 B.C.E. They were appreciated in Rome.

The Roman Gods

  • There were many different gods of Rome which meant Rome was polytheistic.
  • There were twelve main gods of Rome and they lived on the top of Mt. Olympus (The Olympians)
  • All twelve gods supposedly have a place on the world that they rule.(Zeus;sky)

Roman Buildings

  • Only wealthy Romans had large-two story buildings.
  • Rome was a very crowded city because of the population which the poor had very small homes.
  • There was no water supply on the second story due to elevation.

Roman Arches

  • The Romans developed an arch to support weight.
  • The keystone is the center stone at the top of the arch.
  • Due to the arch Romans could build massive structures such as the Pantheon.

  • The Roman arch was very useful to the Romans.
  • Aqueducts were built on the top of the arch.

Twelve Tables

  • The twelve tables were the first laws of the Romans. And we still have similar laws today.
  • These laws were established legal procedures to protect certain rights of the Romans.
  • Some claimed these laws were fair and some say they were not fair.

Roman Numerals

  • We use Roman Numerals in math still today and many other ways.
  • The Romans developed this form by using the alphabet.
  • Our numbers today look nothing like the Romans but we got our number system from the Romans.

The Latin Language

  • Many of the phrases we use today are taken from the Latin language. For example the prefixes in words, to even P.M. and A.M.
  • We use the Latin language still today and even just parts of a word.
