PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ROME

  • Monumental Achitecture
  • A man made piece of architecture made to represent something important

AQUEDUCTS

  • They were used to carry fresh water from a stream to people
  • The aqueducts seemed to have an arch in between the pillars to distribute weight
  • Springs were the most common source of water for the aqueducts
  • Gravity would help move water down the aqueducts
  • Bridges were similar to aqueducts but they moved people over obstacles

ROMAN BATHS

  • Architects were able to place arches, domes, vaults in the baths
  • The rooms were large enough to fit a pool and were symmetrical
  • Aqueducts were used to transport water into the large baths

COLOSSEUM

  • It is located East of the Roman Forum
  • It was built between 70 and 72 A.D. By emperor Vespasians
  • It was built to entertain the Romans
  • The seats were all built the same to be interchangeable

ROME

  • I think that Roman architecture was built to show their power and wealth

EGYPT

  • Monumental Architecture
  • Is something that has a meaning behind it

PYRAMIDS

  • Their massive scale reflects the role that the Pharos in ancient Egypt
  • They were built to protect the body of the deceased Pharos
  • Tombs were constructed with sand the element of time
  • They were intended to last forever
  • They were built in 2584 B.C.

PYRAMIDS

  • I think the pyramids were the most important
  • They were made to serve as the resting place for the Pharos

  • Some of the Egyptian architecture had to do with their wealth
  • They also had some need to their architecture

SIMILARITIES

  • Obelisk
  • Created for the pharaoh Rameses 2
  • Romans placed a Obelisk in the center of Circus Maximus
  • They are seen a lot in roman architecture

DIFFRENCES

  • The aqueducts were used to transport fresh water
  • The pyramids were built to protect the Pharos body after death
