Context

• Paul continues to address Jews and Gentiles alike
• Previous chapter we talked about works vs grace. We concluded that you cannot earn your salvation

Context

• Paul explains that Jews will still be saved, again, by grace and grace alone
• God has not rejected the Jews in favor of the Gentiles. Paul yearns for both sides to push aside their arrogancy
• Uses olive tree as an example to illustrate how both sides should think

Questions

What does Paul belive about the remnant of the Jews? How will their inclusion compare to the Gentiles inclusion in the kingdom? (Verses 1-6, 12, 24)

Paul is concerned about the relationship between Jews and Gentiles. What negative and harmful relationships does Paul warn both groups about? How does he encourage them to act towards each other?

In what ways do you think you have become arrogant after being given something that truly did not belong to you/you did nothing to earn it?

How has God displayed his wisdom through the plan of salvation? How might that give you hope and trust as we're given opportunities to preach?

Paul wrote against divisions against J&G in the Roman church. Are there divisions in your church today? Between which groups? What would Paul say to those groups?

Is there someone in your past or present who has done you evil? What wrong responses are you tempted to enact? How would have you looked if you chose to obey God instead and choose peace?

Application Question: Think of a practical and encouraging way to mend any broken relationships in your church. It could be between you and any brother or sister in your church and it may involve prayer, words of encouragement, time spent, forgiveness, or repentance. Act upon it and be accountable.
