PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Martzisor
This is a special holiday were all the girls and women wear small pieces of jewelry made of gold, silver, wood, and other things that represents an object, pieced together with red and white silk. It's kind of like Valentines day.
Saint's Days
Saint's days are held almost every month, one day for each of the saints. For example; Saint Peter, Saint John, Saint Mary(Ect...)
Women's day
Women's day is like a combination of Mother's Day and Teacher's day. Almost all of the women in Romania are given flowers and other presents. This is held on March 8th
The People
The people of Romania are very well behaved, kind and sweet people. Overall they value manners and respect. They aren't very open to one another, but they will warm up to you after some time
Most of the people dress casually. Not many wear orthodox outfits all the time unless it's for an occasion like a wedding or Holidays. They dress just like people in America would.
As of 1991, Romania was claimed as a imperfect democracy along with becoming apart of the EU in 2008-09
Leaders
The Prime Minister of Romania is Victor Ponta and the President of Romania is Traian Basescu
Government System
Romania's Government is split up into two Chambers, The Chamber of Deputies and Senate. They both work together to make new laws and vote on new senate members after 4 years.
President
The President is elected by the people of each region in Romania. The President only serves for 4 years at the most. Kind of like the election system USA.
Special Laws
Romania doesn't have any special or goofy laws, really.. It's a pretty straight forward country.
The Economy Itself
The economy is a Market Economy, meaning that the relies on mostly on the selling and trading and selling of goods and resources.
Natural Resources
There are many copper and coal mine, oil, and multiple energy companies, but most important is the land for food, wheat, and silk.
Jobs
Some of the most common jobs in Romania are; electric machinery and equipment, textiles and footwear, light machinery and auto assembly, food and beverage, energy, and oil processing.
Currency
Unlike most of the countries in the EU, Romania has kept its state currency called Leu. One is worth about 30 cents in American coins and 0.22 Euros
Trade
The most common things that Romania trades for other goods from countries are cars, jewelry, and refined petroleum oil.
First Event
World War 1 helped shape Romania because of Germany and Bulgaria declaring war on them in 1914, causing them to lead into dictatorship by Kind Carol the 2nd.
Communism
Comunnism took control over Romania in 1947, but under tye power of Presedint Nicoale Ceausescu, Romania started its own path.
Revolution
In 1989, a revolution sparked when the government security police killed demonstrators in Timisoara and Bucharest. During this revolustion, Ceasescu and his wife were excuted, causing their reign of repression, deprivation and ethnic discrimination fall
AfterMath
After the execution, Romania started to change as the public and private coruption impeded the economic growth. Due to this the government and people then, finally, decided to change into a democracy.
Climate
Romania has a temperate-continental climate rate, which means that summers are very very hot and winters are long and cold.
Vegetation Zones
three main vegetation zones in Romania are the alpine zone, the forest zone and the steppe zone. The Forest zone has a more of a mixed forest combination, mostly containing Norway Spruce Trees
Religion
Religion is very very diverse in Romania, though most of the religion is the traditional religion and different forms of Christianity
Weddings
At weddings, the best man steals the bride away and hides her so that the groom can't find her. the groom must buy the bride back by either white wine or some sort of amusment
Funerals
At funerals, they prepare a cake made of boiled grains, nuts and sugar caller Kolvia. They also break glass to keep evil spirits away. and wash your hands after going to the cememtary to wash away the troubles
Sports
Barbecue is concidered a national sport. families go into the mounatins or woods and cook sauseges called Michii(Mitch) or fish called saramiruka while they drink beer, a mixture of white wine and soda or mineral water while the kids drink soda, fruit juice, or cola
Monsters
Yes, Romania very much believes in monsters, such as witch, werewolves, and of course vampires. Although vampires are the most common belief, the close second are witches, which supposedly are real.
Witches and Taxes
Romanian "Witches" have threatened to cast hexes and spells on the Romanian goverment for making them pay taxes
Medal Count
Sadly, this year Romania did not earn any medals.
Spotlight
Zoltan Kelemen is a Romanian Figure skater who had entered the Olympics this year in the Men's Figure skating at the age of 27. He has been in the Olympics for 4 years.
