5 Trait Theory- Openness
Roger enjoys taking on multiple personas in order to amuse himself, each one with a unique personality, with its own likes and dislikes, making Roger very open to new experiences.

Neuroticism-
Roger frequently becomes angry, upset, or depressed. Roger is extremely emotionally unbalanced, and turns to Stan's wife as a source of stability.

Extraversion-
Roger thrives off of the attention of others, and uses his many personas to build countless of connections with others. He enjoys being surrounded by people at every moment. Despite his social skills and high energy, Roger is not a positive alien.

Agreeableness-
While Roger does look at the Smith family as his own, he has the tendency to play tricks on them and use them for his own selfish gains. In addition, he enjoys antagonizing the Smith's for his own amusement.

CONCIENTIOUSNESS

  • Roger does not plan things out or think in depth about his actions. He is extremely spontaneous when coordinating himself.

DEFENSE MECHANISMS INCLUDE:

  • Projection
  • Regression
  • Displacement
  • Sublimation

Regression-
Roger drinks, smokes, and orally intakes many recreational drugs, indicating he is trapped in the oral stage of development due to his angst in being abandoned by his home planet, which may also explain why he acts like a baby and needs constant attention and care.

Sublimation-
Roger's people used him as a crash test dummy, which may be why he uses his many personas as a means of releasing this anxiety through various ploys of success. Some successful personas include a bar tender, wedding planner, and various actors/actresses.

Projection & Displacement
Roger has a problem with taking responsibility for his own actions due to his fear of Stan kicking his out of the house. To explain his bad behavior, Roger blames his actions on other family members, and lashes out at others during times of stress. He also uses his various personas as a means of "scape-goating".

HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

  • Physiological, Safety, and Belonging- provided for!
  • HOWEVER- Roger has low self esteem, preventing him from reaching self actualization.

Behavioral Theory-
Although Roger receives a lot of negative reinforcement & punishment for his behavior, he continues acting poorly to others, showing that reinforced learning has no effect on his behavior.

Social-Learning Theory
While Roger was born and raised on a separate planet, Roger has been very much effected by Earth's culture and it's events.
