F.I.R.S.T. ROBOTICS

F.I.R.S.T. Robotics is a program that high school students participate in as a varsity sport for the mind to celebrate science and technology.

WHAT COUNTRIES PARTICIPATE?

  • Nineteen different countries participate usually.
  • U.S.A, United Kingdom, Dominican Republic, and many more.

WHO FOUNDED F.I.R.S.T.?

  • Two people founded F.I.R.S.T. Woodie Flowers and Dean Kamen.
  • They both are very important to F.I.R.S.T. and attend many competitions.

WOODIE FLOWERS

  • He was born Friday, January 1, 1943, making him seventy-three years old.
  • He went to Louisiana Tech University.
  • He is now a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

DEAN KAMEN

  • He was born on April 5, 1951, in Long Island, New York making him sixty-four years old.
  • When he was very young he was being paid for his inventions.
  • He invented the Segway PT.
  • Before his high school graduation his average salary for a month was $60,000.

THE CHALLENGE

  • The challenge is kept secret until kickoff.
  • Every year it is different.
  • Once the challenge is revealed each team has six weeks to build a robot to complete the challenge.

THE AWARDS

  • There is a first place prize, but there are also other awards.
  • There is the Gracious Professionalism Award, which awards the team that respects each other on the field and off.
  • There is the Woodie Flowers Award, which awards one amazing mentor that inspires, empowers, and leads their team.
  • And many, many more.
