He is a Puerto Rican baseball player
He played for the pirates as a right fielder
He was born august 18, 1934
He died at 38 years of age on december 31 1972

He led national league in batting four times
He became the first hispanic player to reach 3000 hits
He played in both 1960 and 1971 world series
He also won the golden glove award for twelve years straight

CHARITY WORK
He always played with kids who dont have the luxury of a glove
He was a national hero in peurto rico
He worked at hospitals in peurto rico and helped alot with that
In fact he died in a plane wreck bringing people in peurto rico food who are less fortunate
The people he was bringing food to people who survived the earthquake in nicaragua

WHY HE IS IMPORTANT
He is an inspiration to hispanic kids who wanted to play baseball
Not just baseball he was also setting a great example of how to be a great person
He displayed that you can be any race and you canbe just as good as anyone else
He is still prestigously honored with baseball fields named after him

It was once only celebrated in south america
But later on progressed its way to america
It is celebrated september 15th to october 15th

WHY WE CELEBRATE HISPANIC MONTH
So we remember the people we talk about but dont really know who they are
To know that they left a mark when they lived and they impacted their country
So people understand more about the hispanic race

He is looked up to as a hero because he accels at baseball
He is also look at with genuine and pure respect from people
He holds many records as the first hispanic person
