  • Convicted of man slaughter and was sent to McNeil Island in Washington State
  • Record at McNeil shows he was violent and difficult to manage
  • One occasion he stabbed a fellow inmate

Stabbed a guard because he wasn't allowed a visit from his brother.

In 1942 he was transferred to Alcatraz and was there for 17 years.

Allowed to breed birds. Robert raised about 300 birds. Studied them, wrote two books, developed and marketed medicines.

Robert Stroud did not escape. He was transferred to the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners. Died there on November 21st, 1963.
