ABOUT THE DECLARATION

  • The second continental congress created a committee for writing a document stating the colonies independence.
  • The main author was Thomas Jefferson.
  • John Adams voted for the declaration.
  • John Hancock had the largest signature.
  • It stated the country's "rules".

JOHN HANCOCKS SIGNATURE

  • His signature was the largest so king George III didn't have to put on his glasses to read it.
  • .

THOMAS JEFFERSON

  • He was One of the main authors
  • The congress ended up taking some of his writing out of the declaration because it spoke about slavary and they didn't want that to be in their official constitution.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN IDEAS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE?

  • All Men kind are created equal.
  • They are entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
  • When a government acts despotically, the American people have a right to overthrow it.

ABOUT "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL"

  • When the declaration was written, they didn't make it clear when they said "all men are created equal".
  • Nobody really knows what they were trying to say for sure.
  • For example they could have meant all white men are created equal And black men or woman aren't.
  • But they also could of meant that all of man kind was created equal as in every human.

LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

  • Every man is entitled to having this.
  • The government is not allowed to take your life, liberty, or something that makes you happy if it's not breaking the law.

OVERTHROWING THE GOVERNMENT

  • You can't over throw the government because you get a little upset about something they did.
  • When the government is acting as if they are a dictator and taking control of your life liberty and pursuit of happiness is when you can try to over throw it, it's actually considered an Americans duty to do so.

HOW DID THE DECLARATION EFFECT OTHER GENERATIONS?

  • It made us a free country today and generations to come.
  • It gave us our country's guide lines that we still use today.
  • It made it so we are all created equal.

ABOUT BEING A FREE COUNTRY

  • The constitution made us a free country giving us life and liberty.
  • If we weren't a free country there could still be slavery, we wouldn't have equal rights and there would be a lot more slavery.

IT GAVE US OUR COUNTRIES RULES.

  • Like I said before we have a lot more rights but we do also have laws to follow.
  • It gave us our guidelines on how to act.

ALL BEING EQAUL

  • The declaration gave us equal rights today.
  • Even though that might not be what they thought when they were writing it, people will still see that we are created equal.
