WHAT IS RENAL FAILURE??

THE KIDNEYS FAIL TO ADEQUATELY FILTER WASTE PRODUCTS FROM THE BLOOD.

WHAT AFFECTS KIDNEY FUNCTION?

  • Polycystic kidney: Causes kidney to become enlarged.
  • Hypertension: Damages blood vessels and filters in the kidney
  • Type 2 Diabetes: High glucose levels damage the filtering units
  • Direct damage to kidney
  • Blocked ureters: Waste is not able to leave the body.
Renal failure occurs due to damage to the functions of the kidneys that lead to failure of the normal filtration process. This could be sudden or rapid in onset in case of acute renal injury or damage or acute renal failure.

Renal failure may also occur due to long term damage to the kidney functions leading to chronic renal failure.
