william harvey is still important today because he created the first quantitative argument for the pulmonary theory. Previously, most doctors believed blood to be food transformed in the liver rather than repumped.

Christopher Columbus is still important because he was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia, but he never did. Instead, he accidentally stumbled upon the Americas.
