PURITANS

How it Began

In England 1563, citizens of England wanted to establish a religion that would be more according to the Cristian god. "Puritans" would be their name.

Puritans got into trouble which led them to the colonies in America. They established Massachutes in 1630. Some also came on the Mayflower. Many Schools and Universities today were established by Puritans.

PURITAN FACTS

  • Many didn't celebrate holidays.
  • Puritans wore plain clothes and had plain houses.
  • Church was all day Sunday and parts of day during the week.
  • Praying and reading the bible was some of their beliefs.
  • Not working hard meant you would go to hell.

QUAKERS

How it Began

In 1648, some citizens became unhappy on how Puritans had been praying, so they established the Quaker Religon.

This new religion eventually led a group of Quakers to being arrested in 1677. That's when they decided to come to the colonies. Quakers did well in business and politics because they were very honest and loyal. Also, they didn't believe in war, so the Quakers never fought in wars.

QUAKER FACTS

  • They had no leaders, Priests, or ministers.
  • There was no church because they had their own beliefs.
  • They did have Quaker Meetings.
  • Praying was a key belief.
  • They didn't believe in war or fighting.

QUAKER FACTS

  • They were very honest people.
  • In World War 1, 2, and many other wars
  • They didn't pay taxes because it would go to war effort.
  • There is a Oatmeal brand named after the Quakers.

ANGLICANS

How it Began

Founded by King Henry the 8th, the Anglican Religion was a way for him to divorce with his wives. In 1562 his old religion didn't allow this.

KEY FACTS

  • God is the Creator, Jesus is The Lord
  • Anglican means "of England"
  • This religion is very much like the Roman Catholic
