"Surely he took up our pain, and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV

Jerusalem

Later, Jesus went to Jerusalem and preached. Jesus wanted the Jews to be the first people to hear that the Messiah had come. He wanted them to be the messengers to the rest of the world about the good news of Jesus. That’s a good plan, right? The Jews knew all about God. They knew that a Messiah was coming. They would be great witnesses to all the nations! Some of them were glad to hear Jesus. Some of them followed Him with joy. But some of them said, “We don’t want you.” Some of the people in Jerusalem REJECTED Jesus.

Do you know what the word “rejected” means?

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem! She who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, yet you were not willing! See, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will never see Me again until you say, ‘He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One’!  - Matthew 23: 37-39

Jesus wanted to gather his people like a hen protects her chicks.

How does a mama hen treat her baby chicks? At night, she lets them snuggle up under the downy feathers from her chest. Those are the softest feathers on the whole hen; they are tiny and fuzzy and fluffy, and all the chicks snuggle up under her soft feathers. Has anybody ever seen Bambi? Remember the song “drip, drip, drop, little April showers . . .?” What does the mama quail do when it starts to rain? She spread her wings out, and started running for home, and all her little chicks ran under her wings, but the one chick who came out from under her wings got rained on. Mama hen took the rain, and let it fall on her own feathers, but she made a safe place for her chicks to make it home, but they had to stay under her wings.

Jesus said, ““Jerusalem, Jerusalem! . . . How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, yet you were not willing!`

Jesus wanted to protect the people in Jerusalem, just like that hen. The hen protected the chicks. Jesus wanted to protect his people.

He wanted to keep them safe from the bad things that would happen to them, but they said, “We don’t want you.”

I don’t want to reject Jesus.

When the Bible says, “I am the Lord who heals you,” are you going to say “I don’t want that?” or “Yes, Lord?”
When the Bible says that the promise of the Holy Ghost is “to you and to your children and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call, are are you going to say “I don’t want that?” or “Yes, Lord?”
When the Bible says, “Get up and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord,” are you going to say “I don’t want that?” or “Yes, Lord?”
When the Bible says, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains,” are you going to say “I don’t want that?” or “Yes, Lord?”

I don’t want to reject Jesus. I want to say, “Yes, Lord.” “Yes” to all His promises, “yes” to whatever He wants for my life.
