WHERE ARE THEY?

The rectus abdominis is located on either side of your abdomen, or stomach, and runs vertically on the anterior wall.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

The rectus abdominis is primarily used to maintain core stability, as well as flex your back. It also can assist the diaphragm with breathing.

INJURIES?

Like all muscles, strains are one of the injuries that can be sustained by your abs. It occurs when the muscle has been stretched too far and the abdominal wall tears. Most cases cause microscopic tears but more severe, the muscle can rupture from its attachment points.

HOW TO EXERCISE THE RECTUS ABDOMINIS?
- Crunches
- Leg drop/raises
- Scissors
- Hip lift
- Torso twist

Remember that the Rectus ABdominis is referring to your ABS.
