Second Phase- Congressional Reconstruction

CONGRESS PASSED THE RIGHTS OF BLACK CODES, WHICH ANGERED THE WHITES IN THE SOUTH.

THIRD PHASE- MILITARY RECONSTRUCTION

SPLIT THE SOUTH INTO 5 MILITARY DISTRICTS. THEY GOVERNMENT WANTED TO FIX ROADS , RAIL ROADS, SCHOOLS, AND HOSPITALS.

Scalawags and Carpet Baggers

SCALAWAGS WERE WHITE SOUTHERners WHO TALKED TO freed slaves. Carpet Baggers were Notherners who moved South afer the Civil war..

15TH AMENDMENNT

IT GAVE BLACKS, FORMER SLAVES THE RIGHT TO VOTE. WOMEN OPPOSED IT BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT INCLUDED.

END OF RECONSTRUCTION

OCCURRED AFTER THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 1876, WHEN CONGRESS FORMED THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION TO RESOLVE DISPUTED DEMOCRATIC ELECTORAL VOTES FROM THE SOUTH.
