TRAPPED IN TIJUANA

Lidia is a mother of two daughters ages two and four, she is also six months pregnant. Lidia decided to flee Tijuana, Mexico after her father, brothers, and cousins were all killed by gang members , she was also threatened. She says “If I continue to stay here, I am going to be killed.”

I chose this article because it is important that we all stand by each other and understand how different our backgrounds can be, we also need to realize how privileged we are compared to the rest of the word.

This article relates to The Book Thief because of presence of poverty and violence. Both Lidia and Leisel are going through traumatic experiences that we can learn from. Just like Leisel, Lidia lost many of her family members due to violence and poverty. Leisels biological mother also sent her to another family for her to have a better life, just like Lidia seeking asylum in America for her kids safety.
