Ray Lewis was one of the greatest linebackers in the NFL, he played 17 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. (1996-2012)

Early life

Overcoming childhood struggles
Ray Lewis was born on May 15,1975. His original name was Ray Jenkins but he later changed it because he was so disgusted with his father's absence in his childhood. He had four younger siblings whom he had to care for for the majority of his childhood.

High school and college athletics

In high school, Ray was a star in football and wrestling. Though he was small in size he made up for it with intensity. Ray led his teams to a great amount of state championships. In 1992, Ray earned a full scholarship to the University of Miami. He is the schools fifth all time leader in tackles.

NFL career

Ray was drafted in 1995 to the Baltimore Ravens, in his rookie year, Ray led the Ravens in tackles. He was named defensive player of the year in 2000 and 2003. In 2000 he led the Ravens to the super bowl in which he took home the MVP award along with the victory.

Retirement

In 2012, Ray Lewis led the Ravens to another Super Bowl, after the victory, Ray announced his retirement, "How could it end any other way?" he said to interviewers after the game.
Today, Ray enjoys his life with his wife and kids. He is frequently asked to be a guest analysis for ESPN. But he really loves spending time with his kids.
