Alpha particle

Protons and neutrons bound together, and emitted during radioactive decay.

Beta Particle

An electron emitted from the nucleus during radioactive decay.

fission

A heavy nucleus spits into more stable nuclei.

fusion

Nuclei combine to form heavier, more stable nucleus.

gamma

A photon emitted by a nucleus during fission and radioactive decay.

half-life

The time required for a sample of a radioactive substance to disintegrate.

Positron

A particle with the same mass as an electron, but has a positive charge.

Radioactivity

The emission of ionizing radiation or particles by the disintegration of atomic nuclei.
