  • Radio was still gettting started by the end of the 1920's
  • During the 1920's the favorite thing for most people to do on the radio had been listening to music
  • By the end of the decade manynprograms had been set up and gained populartity

  • Due to the Great Depression radio prices fell

  • In 1916 radio prices had been between $30 and $200

RADIO CONNECTS THE NATION

  • Due to the falling prices people all across the nation bought radios
  • News that would take weeks to spread on paper now spread in days, minutes, and even live as the event was happening
  • On March 12, 1933 an estimated 60 million people were listening about President Roosevelt's speech on the bank crisis
  • In 1935 Roosevelt started the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) which allowed the spread of radio to rural areas
  • The entire country had radios and as radio spread people felt connected as they all tuned in to the same stations

WAR OF THE WORLDS

  • October 30, 1938
  • A man named Orson Wells created a radio show called "War of the Worlds"
  • The broadcast was about aliens invsding Earth
  • Many people believed the story was true and panic broke out across the nation
  • Demonstrated how much people were willing to believe on the radio
