Racial Profiling and its Affect on Racism and Groups

INSTITUTIONAL RACISM?

• A whole community acting differently towards certain groups because they’re different.
• Racial Profiling- Assuming something bad about a person.

HOW WE KNOW IT’S REAL

• Blacks make up 13% of the general population but they make up 40% of the prison population (”United Sates Sentencing Commission”)

EXAMPLES OF RACIAL PROFILING ARE EVERYWHERE

• The doctors office
• The highway
• Housing market
• Education system
• Employment gap

EFFECTS OF RACIAL PROFILING ON IDENTITY

• Mistrust in law enforcement
• Makes it harder to achieve in society
• Education will be difficult
• Black children are 3x more likely to get suspended (“Civil Rights Data Collection”)
