  • Racial segration law enacted in 1876 and 1975
  • Mandated racial segration in all public facilities
  • In 1890 a"separate but equal"status for African American
  • Segrated public schools,public places,and public transportation
  • Segration of restrooms ,restaurants and drinking fountains for white and blacks

AFRICAN AMERICAN HAVE BEEN UNDER THE CONSTANT CONTROL OF WHITES

-14 million white Americans and 2.6 million African Americans using illicit drugs
-5times as many white Americans are using drugs as African American
-African Americans are sent to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate of white Americans.

-African Americans now constitute nearly 1 million of the total 2.3 million incarcerated population
-African Americans are incarcerated at nearly six times the rate of whites
-African American represent 26% of juvenile,46% of the youth who are judicially youth admitted to state prisons.

-49% of prison inmates nationally are African American compared to their 13% share of overall population
-nearly one in three (32%) of black males in the age group of 20-29 is under criminal justice supervision

  • In 2007 there were 2,293,157 people housed in a state prison
  • In 2006 37% of all incarcerated males were black
  • In 2006 9% of prison population was made up as Hispanics
  • In 2005 0.7% of prison population was all white men

  • In 2010, the incarceration rate for black men was 4,347 per 100,000
  • In 2010, the incarceration rate for Hispanic men was 1,755 per 100,000
