THE QUATERNARY ERA

IN THE BEGINNIING

  • The quaternary period began 2.6 million years ago
  • It is the current time period that we are in.
  • In this time period, the glaciers from the previous ice age are starting to melt and land is forming.
  • The first Primates are on the Earth and the first hooved animals have evolved.

CLIMATE

  • The climate of this time period was cold
  • The Earth was warming up from the previous ice age.
  • The glaciers were melting which was causing land to form and the earth to heat up.

PLANT-LIFE

  • There was not much plant life on the earth at this time because the earth was still covered in ice.
  • There was some vegetation but it was all evergreen plants that could endure the cold weather.
  • If there was any of plants on the Earth they were frozen in the ice.

ANIMALS

  • After the ice melted, the animals that were still alive, evolved.
  • The first Primates had appeared on Earth which will evolve into the humans of present time.
  • Animals from the Tertiary period have evolved as well and the first sign of hooved animals are on the Earth.
