If you liked the book "Right Behind You" by Gail Giles, then you should try reading "Just Listen" by Sarah Dessen. Not only were the books similar in the plot, but they were also both very intriguing books in may ways.

"Just listen" is a book about a high school girl named Annabel Greene. When she is younger her and her best friend Clarke meet a girl named Sophie and become best friends with her. When they get older Sophie has a boyfriend that try's to take advantage of Annabel but Sophie and everyone at school misunderstood the situation and everyone shunned her at school including her best friend Clarke. Her family had many problems, especially her mom who fought through depression. Annabel meets someone who isn't very liked at school, Owen, and they become very close. When Annabel feels comfortable with Owen, she tells him what happened between her and Sophie's boyfriend Will. After everyone finds out what actually between Will and Annabel, Annabel gets her life back and she feels complete once again.

"Right Behind You" is about a boy named Kip. The reader finds out Kip's mother got ill and died before the book. When Kip was nine years old he set another boy on fire. Kip was then put in a mental institution for a couple years. After the town found out about what happened, the entire town hated Kip. Once Kip got out of the hospital him, his father ,and his father's new girlfriend, moved away from Alaska. Kip had to attend a new school and learn how to act around "normal" people, or people that haven't been in mental institutions. He makes friends easily and after a couple years pass they go out one night and get drunk. Kip spills everything that happened the night he burned the kid which causes his family to have to move again. They move to a beach house and meet their new neighbors. Kip falls for his neighbor Sam.

She is confused by Kips past so he gives Sam his journal which explains everything. Kip is scared for Sam's reaction, but in the end they Sam comes to Kip's door and says, “I can't forget. I can't really forgive. But I can live. Live with it.”.

These books are similar because in both books, the mom has become ill. In "Right Behind You" Kips mom dies before the book starts and in "Just Listen" Annabel's mom has to fight through depression. They are also similar because, Kips entire town hates him because he burned a kid and Annabel's entire school hates her even though they misunderstood the situation she was in.

There are many ways these two books are different but a few are that Annabel didn't have to move when the entire school shunned her because the reason they did shun her wasn't as big as the reason the entire town hated Kip. Also the characters personalities and aperances in both books are very different but their experiences are what makes them similar.
